A Bit of Help...
- What is Okotag for?
-
Okotag decodes 2D barcodes. These codes hold miscellaneous types of data, such as automatic hyper-links to several online services. No more needs to jot a WEB address on a piece of paper, nor to fiddle with an akward keyboard to enter it in your phone. Start Okotag and shoot the Tag, then
- Access easily to an Internet WEB site;
- Acquire multimedia contents such as video, music, data;
- Register a new contact;
- And much more!
- Using Okotag
-
Install the Okotag application (CAB, or JAR) and start it up. Press on "Decode". Carefully, aim your camera at the Tag, frame it, and shoot. Okotag will automatically decode the Tag and take the appropriate action to reveal its content.
Depending on your mobile's model, Okotag takes a still picture or analyses on the fly a moving view. For the former, you will have to manually shoot the picture, pressing on "Decode". Stay firm, aim straight...
- Sometimes, I have troubles at decoding a Tag
-
First, in order to decode a Tag, you need to start Okotag. Natively, your phone's camera doesn't know how to read Tags as Okotag does.
Mobile phones performances vary among the brand and model. Hence, to decode a Tag at its best requires you to follow some elementary rules, the same rules you would apply for taking a nice picture.
- Carefully, frame the Tag. For a Tag found in a magazine, newspaper, or flyer, the best distance is between 6 and 8 inches. Again, this value depends on the phone model.
- The tag must clearly appear on the screen (no blur!)
- Hold the camera firmly and stay put as much as you can. Even small movements may prevent the Tag to be properly decoded.
- Pay attention to brightness conditions. There must be enough light, evenly spread out on the entire Tag surface. Avoid shadows.
- Decoding works OK, but my phone does not access to any WEB services
-
In order to access WEB services, you have first to enter a specific agreement with your mobile phone operator (CSP) for data and Internet access. If you already did, then check your connection parameters. and/or contact your carrier company
- Under what conditions may I use Okotag services?
-
The only requirement is that you Mobile Phone Operator has authorized you to access the WEB. Everything else is free. There are NO fees to download Okotag: use it at your convenience.
- "The proper camera interface was not found on this device." What does that mean?
-
Unfortunately, a few mobile phones, although they have a camera device, miss the proper programming interface, or its implementation is non conform. This message tells that such an error occurred, preventing Okotag from running.
- What symbologies does Okotag understand?
-
At today, Okotag understands two well-known 2D symbologies: DataMatrix and Qrcode. Under Windows Mobile, press and hold the pen on the screen, and check the symbology you want to use. Using Java, the choice is automated.
- Will I be billed for decoding a Tag?
-
For the end user, the decodage itself is entirely free, as well as the access to multimedia services. However, the use of these services may incur fees, as the Service Provider may charge for these services.
- What does it cost for downloading and/or using Okotag?
-
Nothing. At the customer end, Okotag is entirely free. If you want to bring Okotag to your own customers, please, contact us at info@jaxo-systems.com
- Once I have downloaded Okotag to my computer, how to transfer and install it on my mobile phone?
-
There are two ways for transferring Okotag on your mobile phone:
- Using Bluetooth. First, check that Bluetooth is activated on both your computer and mobile phone. On your computer, right click on the Okotag file you downloaded, select "Send To", "Bluetooth" and finally your phone.
- Using the USB cable that came with your phone. Please attentively read the user's manual for details and explaination.
For some mobile phones, the Java version is sent as a ZIP file. You then need to unzip it before to transfer the JAR and/or JAD to your mobile phone. For Windows Mobile, after the .CAB file has been transferred to your mobile, open File Exlorer, click on the file to start the install.
Finally, the easiest way to install Okotag is to navigate, directly from your phone, to http://okotag.mobi/inter.
- Is Okotag enabled for reading "open codes" in direct mode?
-
Yes. When revealing a Datamatrix containing direct hyper-links conform to "open encoding", Okotag takes the appropriate action. Okotag also understands Jaxo Systems' indirect mode, and is adaptable to other (new) standards.
